Close the HKETOs
“HKETOs were understandable when Hong Kong was sufficiently autonomous from China but in 2020, Beijing imposed a National Security Law that decimated the autonomy, rule of law, and freedom of expression that the city once enjoyed.”
– CFHK Foundation X
Political Prisoners
“Every political prisoner represents a life that is stunted, a woman or man cut off from child or spouse. The Chinese gulag has spread across the country like a cancer, even extending to Hong Kong since the introduction of the 2020 National Security Law.”
– Mark Clifford, CFHK Foundation President
Jimmy Lai
“Jimmy Lai chose to stay in Hong Kong knowing he would face imprisonment rather than leave the people of Hong Kong behind and escape the ongoing crackdown on the city by the authorities and the Chinese Communist Party.”
– Mark Clifford, CFHK Foundation President
Foreign Judges
“The implementation of the National Security Law in Hong Kong on June 30, 2020, has crushed the rights and freedoms of Hong Kong people; dismantled the foundation of the rule of law; and obliterated the principle of “one country, two systems” guaranteed in the Basic Law.”
– Frances Hui, CFHK Foundation Policy and Advocacy Coordinator

Since 2019, the ongoing national security crackdown in Hong Kong has resulted in the imprisonment of more than 1,900 political prisoners, aged 13 to 76, roughly half of whom are still behind bars. The CFHK Foundation campaigns to secure the release of all political prisoners in Hong Kong, each of whom is a testament to the liberty the city has lost. Here are their stories:
The Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong Foundation
Founded in 2022, the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong (CFHK) Foundation is a U.S.-registered charity that aims to free all of Hong Kong political prisoners. From offices in Washington D.C. and London, the Foundation campaigns to ensure there are profound international consequences for the People’s Republic of China’s broken promise to uphold the Basic Law and the Sino-British Joint Declaration in Hong Kong. Through innovative research, media engagement, and government relations initiatives, the Foundation leads global advocacy in support of Hong Kong’s core values: rule of law, press freedom, and freedom of expression.
