International Women's Day: Hong Kong Women v.s. CCP Dictatorship
Frances Hui, Policy and Advocacy Coordinator at the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong (CFHK) Foundation, testifies before the Canadian Parliament’s Subcommittee on International Human Rights on November 26, 2024. As a Hong Kong-born activist who left Hong Kong due to China’s draconian National Security Law, Frances shares her personal experiences with transnational repression, including surveillance, harassment, and threats by agents of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Her testimony highlights the CCP’s extensive campaign to silence dissent worldwide, its use of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Offices (HKETOs) to advance Beijing’s agenda abroad, and the urgent need for Canada to take stronger actions. Frances discusses policy recommendations, including revoking the HKETOs’ diplomatic privileges and enhanced measures to counter foreign interference, while calling on Canada to lead in protecting human rights and democracy globally.

*Key Topics*
- Transnational repression tactics by the CCP
- Personal experience under transnational repression
- The role of HKETOs in advancing Beijing’s agenda
- Policy recommendations for Canada to safeguard sovereignty

Samuel Bickett testifies to Canadian Standing Committee on International Trade: Oct 28, 2024
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has intensified repression in Hong Kong over the last year and continues to decimate the once-respected rule of law and freedom of expression that the people of Hong Kong previously enjoyed. In 2024, Chinese and Hong Kong officials expanded the draconian National Security Law (NSL) of 2020 by imposing the Article 23 Ordinance that further criminalizes free speech and continues to strip away due process and fair trail protections. Almost two thousand political prisoners are now incarcerated, and ongoing trials target journalists, pro-democracy legislators, and ordinary Hong Kong citizens who advocate for liberty.

In this video, we delve into the evolving political landscape in Hong Kong, focusing on the continued erosion of press, internet, and religious freedoms under CCP's intensifying control. We also explore how the CCP is exporting its surveillance and repression globally, and highlight our work at the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong (CFHK) Foundation as we fight to free political prisoners and defend human rights and freedoms in Hong Kong and beyond.
